About Binesikwe Beads
Paige Saunders is a mixed European/settler and Otipemisiwak Cree-Métis beadwork artist. Her father’s family comes from Red River, Manitoba, Batoche, Duck Lake and Marcelin, Saskatchewan. Her family lines are Venne, St. Arnaud (Arnault).
Paige is a graduate from the University of Guelph, receiving her Bachelor of Arts (Hon.) in Criminal Justice and Public Policy, and her Master of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology. Her master’s research centred around cultural revitalization in the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation.
Binesikwe translates to bird woman in Anishinaabemowin, given to her as a nickname by her spirit Mishoomis, Miptoon (Tony) Chegahno. She lives with her family in Oakville, Ontario, where her pieces are created.
